From Handicrafts to Global Markets

Feb 15, 2026

When I started Sita's Handicrafts five years ago, I never imagined we would one day ship orders to Europe and North America. The journey from selling at local markets in Kathmandu to working with fair-trade partners abroad taught me more than any textbook could.

Starting small

I began with a handful of women artisans and a simple idea: create beautiful, traditional handicrafts that tell a story. We focused on quality and authenticity. Every piece was made by hand, using techniques passed down through generations.

Finding the right partners

Through the Aarohi program, I connected with mentors who helped me understand international standards, packaging, and storytelling for a global audience. I learned that buyers abroad don't just want products—they want to know who made them and why it matters.

Where we are now

Today we work with over 50 women artisans and have shipped to 12 countries. The work is still challenging, but the impact on our community keeps us going. If you're thinking about scaling, my advice is: start with your story, build trust, and don't rush.
